My Favorite Fashion Critic
Each morning, my confidence to walk out the door in what I am wearing for work hinges upon JD’s response. That’s just how it is. Sometimes, I feel very sure of what I’m wearing, and then JD knocks me back into reality so I alter the ensemble. This is not controlling or sad since I whole-heartedly welcome his reaction: JD is a normal guy who, I believe, knows the difference between nice-looking and weird.
This morning, I tried something new. A navy cardigan over my gray above-the-knee-length dress with navy stockings and my tan boots. I thought it looked good.
JD: “So, you’re selling out?”
Kate: “What? What do you mean?”
JD: “You always made fun of the girls that wore leggings and said you’d never wear them, and now you are.”
Kate: “No, no! These are stockings!”
JD: “But they look like leggings.”
Kate: “But, they’re not, they’re tights.”
JD: “You’re still wearing leggings.”
After this exchange, I might have changed, but I knew I was right. So we headed into work, me in my smart outfit, knowing that a few Googled images could change his mind.

There’s a big difference between leggings and tights.

Right, but the point is, they look the same in boots. Turkey.

But, they’re not. And leggings are typically black. And, mine are blue.
It’s not my fault that the tights people got pigeon-holed as leggings when boots are brought into the picture.
Turkey yourself.

you’re fashion-forward
what else can i say?
I’ll consider that a win.

definitely tights. and does this mean you disapprove of my occasional leggings wearing? uh oh…
I am not opposed to leggings. in fact, i embraced their return and bought them in 5 colors.
That said, i also love tights, and fully recognize the difference.
and you were wearing tights.

I wear leggings but I put boots over them so they look like tights. Am I a sellout?
I don’t like the footless leggings with regular shoes look. I do like the freedom that my toes feel when I don’t have to wear footed tights under boots. It’s all about having wiggle room!
