Back to School
Tomorrow is the first day of school here in Nashville/Davidson County, and I’m dreading it! Not because I am attending, but because the traffic, especially during August and September, is crazy! Parents are adjusting to new schedules, and everyone seems to be running late. I’ll be glad when October rolls around and the traffic gets better.
For others, the start of school is a fun time, full of freshly sharpened pencils and new clothing. I love school supplies and always anticipated packing my booksack (a term JD tells me is only used in Louisiana) full of items in preparation of the first day. My favorites were the clean white notebooks, spiral-bound of course! Nothing would disappoint me more than when a teacher requested we used binders with looseleaf instead.
Getting caught up a little bit in back-to-school mode, I looked around for notebooks that a big kid like me would use, even though I’m not a student. Here are a few that I love:
I’m sorry to mention it again but I. love. this. notebook. These SusyJack notebooks are wonderful: unique and pretty. And only $12! I’m on my second one, and it fits perfectly next to my calendar inside my purse.
I also own this Dozi pocket notebook ($9) which is smaller than the SusyJack but perfect for jotting down ideas or other random thoughts.
This little guy from Small Square Design is the size of the Dozi notebook above but is spiral-bound. If you click the link to the product, you can see the litte details inside the journal, which I think make it. ($6)
Orla Kiely products always make my day! I love this pear notebook found at See Jane Work. ($17)
Who says notebooks have to be all work? This recycled Monopoly board is a great cover for this journal by Trillium Artisans. ($17)

So, I had to re-read this post 3 times before I even understood what you meant by “booksack.” I think you made that up. It’s a backpack. Or a book bag. Of this, I am certain.
Heat, I did not make that up!
Booksack= Backpack or Bookbag
I mean, what can you expect from Louisiana? Counties are parishes. Backpacks are booksacks.
Heck yeah Kate! Booksack!
Also, why are they starting school on a Friday? That seems cruel and unusual.
Friday as first day is a perfect scheduling for teachers. Teachers have their rosters finally. New students have shown up and thrown the admin into a tizzy, and all have the weekend to “rethink” their original, idealistic plans. Oh, those were the days….
