30/Thirty
For a few months now, JD and I have been watching the acclaimed ESPN series 30 for 30, documentaries spanning the past 30 years on different sports events and people. I actually love the concept, although some are hard to watch (the Ricky Williams one was especially eye-opening) because many bring tears. (Ten years ago, if you had told me I would be choking up over the story about a football team leaving Baltimore, I would laugh in your face.) I know this is JD’s not-so-sly way in getting me to love sports, and it’s working!
Side note: JD could write a book on how to get your girlfriend-turned-wife to be a sports fan. Chapters would be titled: “Telling Her about Players’ Families and Wives,” “Know Your Roommate Stories: The Joseph Addai Example,” “The John Smoltz Phenomenon,” and “The Wonders of ‘Hard Knocks’,” among others.
Anyway, I love the concept of the 30 for 30 series because it is a list of great documentaries, and throughout the year, they are checked off as they are viewed. I love lists!
On a different note, I turn 30 on February 6, 2012. It is freaking me out just a little, but I also feel like there are so many things I want to do before I turn 30. I recently saw this 30 Before Thirty list compiled by Making it Lovely and am completely inspired. What a great idea!
So I’m working on a list and am planning on sharing it with you soon. Think I should do anything before my big 3-0? I’m hoping that listing the plan here on Schmate will help keep me accountable. I’m open to suggestions! (So far on the list is running a 5K and trying to go a whole week without meat… I know! What a daredevil am I!)

Other chapter titles:
“Hey, that Javy Lopez is quite a looker!”
“Interviews With LaMarcus Aldridge”
“You know, all those Mannings are from Louisiana, too…”
“Brian McCann’s Mother: An ARMC Connection”
“Re-Tweeting Steve Tchiengang”
“I Coach A Team Of Future Bidness Leaders”

It’s a long book. It’s a long process.
As someone “older.” I balk at your concern about turning 30 IN TWO YEARS. Get hold of yourself woman. Now would be an appropriate time for your Mother and MamaStu to intervene.
Yes, I’m proud to be 58 because when you turn 30, I turn 60.
