Well, I got to walk it
Guys, I did it! I participated in my first ever race. No, I wasn’t running it, sadly, but I speed-walked it. I think that has to count for something?
My mother-in-law (who I call “Mama Stu”) and I got up bright and early Saturday morning and participated in the 12th Annual Historic Germantown 5K Bier Run. We did not run — I’m a little front heavy for that — but to keep up with Mama Stu’s pace, we clocked a pretty good fast walking 5K at 44:44.
I had never participated in a formal race like this… I just get a little nervous about my running speed and endurance. But since I knew I’d be walking it, the race was really a breeze, and I got to really enjoy the sights and sounds rather than be worried about my speed.
The course was very fun, going through the historic Germantown neighborhood in north Nashville, including zipping through a park and down the middle of the Farmer’s Market (Nashville’s is just awesome). The weather was beautiful (60s and 70s the whole course), and the path had enough hills and challenges to make it a great workout. For participating, we got t-shirts and a plastic “beer stein” which was a bit laughable but still fun. Best of all, Mama Stu and I met JD at the Pancake Pantry post-race to celebrate.
Y’all, I’m looking rough… it’s very early. And I’m not allowed to drink coffee!
I am definitely planning on doing another race in the future. Perhaps post-pregnancy, I’ll work on running again. Even so, walking the 5K was very fun. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the people gathered and just feeling rewarded after exercise!
