Mother’s Day vs. Father’s Day
In years past, Mother’s Day has been especially hard on me. I wish I could say I was better at handling it, but I wasn’t, and it just wasn’t a fun Sunday for me. So, I’m sure you can imagine that Mother’s Day this year was just over-the-top awesome. If nothing else happened but that I got to celebrate it because I’m a mama and spend time with Maggie, that would have been splendid. But, it was so much more… I felt like it was my birthday again!
I received tons of texts and emails, wishing me a happy first Mother’s Day. JD and Maggie made me breakfast and gave me a beautiful bracelet that I wear almost every day now. We all spent good quality time together, and it was a great great day.
For Father’s Day, JD also got to enjoy a fun weekend with Maggie, but he also received his favorite love language: food. I made pretzel bites (a dating favorite) for the first time (keep an eye out for the recipe later) as well as other various drinks and snacks. Then, we had our first night out without Maggie (a real date!… thanks, Irene!), and we headed to a newish restaurant in Nashville that was out-of-the-park amazing. The appetizer was housemade, thick-cut, peppered bacon with maple cotton candy on top. Amazing.
Overall, it was just so fun to finally celebrate. Reality definitely set it: we are parents and we’re so excited to be doing this thing together!
