Uniform Black Dress

June 16, 2009

Today, I am wearing a black dress. This particular black dress is my go-to dress. I wear it all the time. It can be jazzed up for parties but is simple enough for work. I seem to choose it anytime I don’t feel like thinking about what I want to wear to work. And, today is just such a day.

But, imagine if you only wore the same black dress every day? While on Unclutterer (a new favorite), I found out about The Uniform Project in which a girl is wearing the same black dress (she has seven of them) each day for a year. She uses jewelry, stockings, fun shoes, hats and other random accessories to make each day different. And, of course, she takes a picture and posts them on a blog.

Day 1 of Uniform Project

At first, I thought, “How cool?” Then, I thought about how annoying that might be. For example, JD and I will probably head to the American Artisan Festival in Centennial Park this weekend, and in festivals of years past, I’ve rolled out of bed, put on a tank top and shorts, and sweated like crazy going to each booth. Why would I ever want to wear my standby dress to a festival like that?

Day 47 of Uniform Project

I absolutely admire this project. She’s in her second month doing it, and I think it’s a great idea. But I don’t know if I could stick with it, regardless of how often I pull out my own old, faithful black dress.
