Housekeeping, Hot Chicken, and Dogs.

July 2, 2009

Hi friends. I’ve got a lot on my plate for the long weekend, and I’m excited to share what we’re doing and where we’re going. But, first, a little housekeeping.

Item 1: no Friday Feast tomorrow. We’re having a cookout on Saturday night for July 4th, and I’m excited about all the cooking to be done. We’re throwing hot dogs and sausages on the grill (thanks to inspiration from oh joy! and Twitter) and using this Bon Appetit article as a guide. I’ll be sure to show off all of our concoctions!

Item 2: July 15 is Schmate’s first birthday, and right about that time, we should be reaching our 200th post. Definitely a big milestone! In my first year with Schmate, I have truly enjoyed reaching out to old friends, sharing my ideas, and documenting some pretty funny times in my life. Thank you for your comments and encouragement. I’ll be changing it up a bit on the 15th, so let me know if you have any ideas for blog posts or other stuff you’d like to see more (or less) of.

Ok, onto the holiday ahead!

If you’re in Nashville this weekend, I can’t encourage you enough to attend the Hot Chicken Festival on Saturday. It’s out in East Park, over the river, and the first 500 people get free samples from the hot chicken vendors around our great city.

There will be music, beer, fruit, snowballs, and lots of chicken! If you go, I recommend bringing your own bottled water. And, a word of warning, after you eat your hot chicken, do. not. touch. your. eyes. Whatsoever. Unless you’ve completely washed your hands with soap and water, it will be a painful lesson if you don’t heed my advice!

In addition to that, JD and I are going on a breakfast date to Fido and heading to the cinema to see “Away We Go.” Aren’t you jealous?

See you soon!
