Grand Central Station Round-Up

September 8, 2009

I’m so excited for my friend Liz who just bought her very first condo in Green Hills. She nabbed a super sweet place with a ridiculous view of the city, and the whole space is perfect. When a bunch of us girls were over at Liz’s last week, she commented to me that she needed a versatile piece of furniture to serve as her “Grand Central Station”… a place for mail, keys, her purse, a notepad, etc. That got me thinking about what that would look like and where you would find such a grand piece of furniture. So I did some research and created my own round up of hutches and other similar furniture that might fit what Liz needs.

Pottery Barn has this beautiful Brady “entryway system” including a docking station for your cell phone and camera chargers. You can get the Brady series in a number of styles, but I like the 2-piece a lot. Only problem is the price ($749… ouch ouch ouch).

If you’d rather something handmade, one of my Etsy favorites, Joseph Spinale Furniture, has a beautiful cupboard/hutch that would look so great. The price is high as well, only it’s handmade ($1150).

IKEA doesn’t have too many choices I like, but one in particular was a nice option, especially for tight spaces. This is Vanna, and she’s $79.99

I love the Blaine Etagere from Mitchell Gold+Bob Williams. Shelves plus cabinets would be perfect for the spot. I can’t find the price online, but I can imagine it’s similar to Pottery Barn.

Now this is a classy piece of furniture (but I’d hope so for the pricetag of $2195!). This French Casement Cabinet from Restoration Hardware is a nice hutch and could really contain your items in a neat way, with the luxury of seeing through the doors.

So, good luck, Liz! I hope you find the right one!

Wow! Kate, you are Johnny-on-the-spot. I know that I can simply mention a furniture or household dilemma, and you’ll be helping me solve it in no time!
