2009 Holiday Gift Guide: The Boys

November 30, 2009

Welcome to the first of two installments of the 2009 Schmate Holiday Gift Guide. Check back tomorrow first thing for our “girl” gift guide. Today, we tackle the hardest species to buy for: men!

There are a bunch of “guy gift guides” out there, and I never feel like any of it is right for my non-metrosexual hubby. So I posted items I would confidently buy JD, and I hope it is helpful for you too! (If not, err on the side of electronics!)

For any guy who loves the SNL Digital Shorts featuring “The Lonely Island” and their hit songs, these tees are perfect. The Lonely Island official tees are only about $20 and hilarious (girl’s shirts available too!). Here are my three favorites:

Why not a poster of his favorite band? I wrote about them earlier in Schmate history: the Small Stakes shop has different concert and band posters from some of our favorite artists (below are Monsters of Folk, the Decemberists and She & Him):

MoMA has a slim selection of “For Him” items. My favorites are the Magno wooden radio, the Rothko 2010 wall calendar, and the Hoodie laptop case:

Well, boys have to smell nice… why not treat them to scents they like, including Pabst Blue Ribbon, Guinness, and spearmint, from Anderson Soap Company on Etsy?

And since all boys love food, I would recommend anything that helps make them look classier while eating: (Pottery Barn lunchbag, upcycled cuff by nspire’s Etsy shop, “Angry Grizzly Bear” bottle opener by Monroe Metal on Etsy).

Kate! I love the PBR soap and the lunch bag. Great ideas! Men are so tricky to buy for sometimes unless it is crazy money items like cars, boats, etc.
