Gift Guide 2011: You can DIY

November 29, 2011

I’m starting off the official 2011 Kate Schmate Gift Guide with this important category: DIY. Yes, you can do it yourself for Christmas. I did it almost completely last year. I loved it so much in 2011 that I want to at least make one something DIY this Christmas. But, it is the first guide this year, because, you know what? These projects take a hecka lot of time… so if you’re going to do this, good luck to you. Here are some ideas.

I love this Birch Wood Wreath, featured on Craft. Pull out your handsaw… you can get this done.

Lupin Handmade (great blog in general for felt tutorials, FYI) featured this guest post on how to create your own play dough. Great gift for the kiddies!

My pal Della sent me this DIY bracelet a few months ago, and since then, I’ve seen it all over Pinterest. It’s a great idea!

Gal-pal Megster Meter has a fun project to give to a friend and/or traveling buddy. I love this idea to document where you’ve been together as a couple.

Even though gin is more of a summer drink, how fun would it be to make your own for someone who loves their nightly toddy? Here’s a tutorial from Jefferey Morgenthaler.

Another from Lupin Handmade, here’s a ribbon hairband tutorial for the fun at heart.

For the yoga lover on your shopping list, here’s an easy tutorial on antibacterial yoga mat spray from Craftbits. Super smart and a fun variation to regular DIY cleaning products.

Why not a fun drink? For something so tasty that you really can only get in a coffee shop, spiced chai concentrate would be a nice luxury DIY gift.
